Psalms 33:11 THE COUNCIL OF THE LORD STANDS FIRM FOREVER, THE PURPOSES OF HIS HEART THROUGH ALL GENERATIONS.

The Divine Unity Is Omniscient

Omniscience means God knows everything—past, present, and future. This truth is expressed in two key ways: God’s decrees and God’s foreknowledge.

1. The Decrees of God

For example, the death of Jesus:

  • It was decreed before time began:

“They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.” (Acts 4:28)

  • Jesus was “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8).

  • Multiple agents carried it out:

    • God gave up His Son (Romans 8:32).

    • Jesus gave His life willingly (John 10:18).

    • Jews and Romans participated in the act (Acts 3:15; 4:27).
God decreed it, but human hands carried it out.

2. The Foreknowledge of God

Unlike His decrees, which are unchangeable, God’s laws and will can be disobeyed. Yet nothing escapes His awareness.

“Before a word is on my tongue you, LORD, know it completely.” (Psalm 139:4)

God sees all choices and actions—good or evil—before they occur. His foreknowledge means He is fully present in every moment of time.

Key Distinction

  • Decrees: Irresistible and certain—what must happen.

“The counsel of the Lord stands firm forever.” (Psalm 33:11)

  • Foreknowledge: God sees everything, including what people choose to do, whether or not it aligns with His will.
