AN EMOTIONAL KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

PS 28: 7: “My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him”

People of the Heart or People of the Head?

Love and knowledge of God are inseparable. Do we love first, then come to know Him? Or must we know Him before we can truly love? For who can love what they do not know?

In my village, the heart led the way—we were deeply spiritual but often drawn to false spirits, not the Holy Spirit. Emotion without truth led us astray.

Elsewhere, the head rules—some hold correct theology but lack devotion. As James warns, even demons believe in God, yet they tremble (James 2:19). Knowing about God without loving Him is lifeless.

Which is worse? Loving a God we do not know or knowing a God we do not love?

Emotional faith without truth leads to idolatry, while intellectual faith without affection leads to dry religion. True worship engages both mind and heart, for God calls us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).
