John 11 : Understanding God’s Aseity: The Nature of Existence
John 11:25 states, “Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?'”
In this statement, Jesus emphasizes the belief that He embodies both resurrection and life. This underscores His role in granting eternal life to those who believe in Him.
Acts 17:28 further elucidates, “For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'”
This passage highlights that every creation by God derives its existence and sustenance from Him. There is an important distinction between being, existing, and living. Inanimate objects, such as a pen, book, or stone, exist but do not possess life. Humans and animals, on the other hand, have existence and life but lack the intrinsic power to create or sustain themselves independently. The only entity that exists, has life, and possesses autonomous being is God Himself.
Therefore, it is evident that we owe our very existence and lives to God.
