The Gift of Eternal Life:John 4
Turn with me to John 4, where Jesus encounters a woman at a well. He speaks of a "living water," a gift that quenches the deepest thirst of the human soul. This living water, as we'll discover, is none other than the Holy Spirit Himself.
The Spirit as the Gift: (John 4:10, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:23) Scripture reveals that the "gift of God" is twofold yet singular: the Spirit of God and eternal life. They are inseparable, intertwined, the very essence of each other. The Holy Spirit is the life-giver, the one who brings the reality of eternity into our hearts.
Asking and Receiving: (John 4:10-13) Imagine possessing a treasure chest, but being unaware of its contents or the giver's willingness to share. We might never ask! But when we know the Giver – His compassion, His love demonstrated on the cross – asking becomes an act of faith, unlocking the boundless riches of His Spirit.
Living Water Within: (John 4:13-14) This living water is not stagnant; it's dynamic, vibrant, possessing a will, eyes, hands, and a heart. It's the very life of God pulsating within us, a spring welling up to eternal life, a foretaste of the powers of the age to come!
